Logic, waveform appearing before the beat but doesn't sound like it

Postby jellyjim » Tue Oct 29, 2019 9:40 pm

Hello

Weird thing going on in Logic

The recorded waveform appears before the start of the beat. It's the output of a drum machine synced over MIDI so you might expect it to be late, if anything.

The odd thing is, if I cut at the preceding bar markers and loop the cut, the orphaned waveform doesn't sound. It's as if it isn't really there. It looks long enough to me to make a pop or pff sound if it were playing.

I assume it's some issue around latency, timing compensation and so on. I really don't want to have to track again. What's the correct thing to do? Simply drag everything to the right? Or is their a correct and accurate amount to nudge it by and can I get that value from somewhere in my app or project settings?

I have linked to an image for reference.

Thanks
Jim

So you've synced a drum machine, but the waveform appears earlier than you think it should be? Check your recording delay preferences for a negative value:-
Preferences -> Audio -> General -> Recording Delay

Also, you might have other plugins affecting Logic's audio path, so see whether turning on low-latency mode changes any behaviour (this disables plugins that cause more than a set value of latency.)

Correct!

I did have low-latency on. No plug-ins running anyway.
