8x8 midi interface shows up as 9x9?

Postby Waltern8tor » Wed Nov 27, 2019 7:47 pm

Hi All
Just bought a EDIROL UM-880 8x8 interface
But In CoreMIDI it shows up as 9x9 interface?
Any ideas as to why the 1 extra input and output...?
It has 2x USB ports but these are both switchable input only for connection to a computer.
Bit stumped as You can only connect to 8 physical ports...
It's installed under its generic USB midi driver
(Is the Roland USB driver still supported?)

Running on High Sierra

Cheers

Could be SPDIF stereo I/O, take a closer look at your specs.

No Audio or spdif. It's a midi / USB interface

Could it be an internal loopback?

Just perused the user manual, looks like the extra MIDI I/O is the control port for the UM880 itself - see page 38 and page 48.

Yup, from the review in SOS

"There's also a useful Setup mode that lets you select which MIDI inputs will transmit data to the USB port, specify a control port (which shows up in your computer as port nine) to transmit the current patch or a bulk dump of all patches to a sequencer, initialise one or all of them, switch between various startup modes, or return the entire unit to its factory preset condition."

Its more than just an 8x8 interface - its also a patchbay/router with a merge module.

The extra channel might be for the box itself so that the computer can configure it and load / save presets.
