Hackintosh Help!

Hi all,

I'm looking to upgrade my windows desktop which I use primarily for gaming, but I also have been looking to upgrade my production setup. I use Logic Pro X and therefore am bound to OSX, but have seen that it is possible to install it on a desktop PC. Does anyone have any experience with this with regards to music production and running Logic? My budget is quite large, looking at i9, 64gb / 128gb, cutting few costs really. I just want to know that I will have a reliable machine for both gaming and producing. Any tips on particularly compatible software, experience with updates etc. would be greatly appreciated!

And specifically, I was wondering if it is possible to have both Windows 10 and OSX running on one machine, and to be able to choose which one to boot up upon startup? This might be a silly question, but would be so ideal, as would mean if I'm logging on to produce I can boot up OSX, or logging on to game I can boot up windows! :D

Yes, Hackintosh is the more difficult option as you'll need to find PC components that will not cause issues with OSX but the other way around it's trivially easy to run Windows on a Mac, either as a dual boot using 'Boot Camp' or by using 'Parallels'.

I have done it but have not booted Windows for a long time.

I used Windows for years and years. I was bored one Sunday afternoon and had an old PC laying around which I wasn't sure what to do with and then I randomly came across all the Hackintosh stuff. I was intrigued.

By the evening I'd installed OSX Tiger and was so smitten with it I'd bought a Mac on my credit card by bedtime!

Used Macs ever since.

That was a zillion years ago and I do remember the process being straightforward but I'd worry there's enough that can go wrong with an audio PC without also running a hacked OS!

I would suggest looking at Linus Tech Tip's channel on Youtube - they have done plenty of Hackintosh build videos recently, and walk you through the process.

If this article is correct, the Hackintosh may start becoming harder to pull off in a year or two if you want to stay current:

How trustworthy this information is I have no idea, and I know there have been rumours for years about such a change, but moving to custom ARM processors would seem a logical progression at some point based on the way they seem to be 'unifying' their OS and mobile devices.
