"Don’t add a drummer... add a bandmate".

Hahahahaha! Thanks for today’s chuckle!

As for Final Cut Pro X - isn’t that the version that drove a lot of professional video editors back to Avid due to, um, numerous issues?

Not really, no. Some people who expected it to be a more modern version of FCP and were disappointed at the first few releases (as there were significant missing features which is only to be expected when you rebuild a large scale application from the ground up) went to Adobe Premiere. But that was years ago.

FCPX is an excellent app and I love it for many reasons (I liked FCP back in the day, but FCPX is *light years* better). There are still some people that don't like some of the concepts and those people are happier in general with Premiere, which is a more traditional approach. Few people who left Avid went back to it, the rest have just always stayed on Avid.

It was missing quite a lot of important functionality at first - maybe Apple should have given it another 6-12 months before release - but I understand from my professional friends that it's a very capable tool now and my own usage just barely scratches the surface of its capability.

It wasn't so much the timing, it was the marketing that was problematic at release. They could have done it better, but I think we've discussed this here before, so I won't rehash all that...

Yep, they've added all those things back in, and then some... It's had many years of development and many versions since that initial release.

Good to know re:FCPX.
So if I'm reading the promotion correctly Logic Pro X and Final Cut Pro X plus 3 other programs all for the total price of $199 (USD I assume)
If that's true that is nuts! and fantastic.
I better go read that again.
Read it again - yes, 5 progs for $199 and it's called Pro Apps Bundle for Education. Chat wasn't available so I don't know if that's an educators discount and it might only be available in the States.
It's late here so I'll check again in the morning with a clear head. I already have Logic but that might be a good price for the other 4 progs.

£199 is the educational price only (UK)

Yes, it requires you to be in education, so you need to have evidence of being a student, teacher, educator or educational establishment to take advantage of the deal...

tim@apple.com

"Dear Tim Apple,

Please could you fix it for me to teach my younglings the fine arts of Logic Pro X music production, for the fine low, low price of the Education Bundle. These are difficult times, and only the fine engineering of the bestest digital audio workthingy can help me and my kids get through this, and create some banging EDM-crunch-techno-thrash-funk to add to my YouTube channel.

I'm willing to credit you in these fine works if required.

All the best,
G"

Worth a shot..! ;)
