Used iMac?

Postby Dave.P » Mon Jul 06, 2020 8:27 pm

Hello good people.

I was all set for dropping some cash on a new iMac as my 2013 unit seems to be struggling these days.No issues here as 7 years good service is not too bad!

With all the changes ahead with new chips coming in, I was wondering if it might be worth thinking of second hand or refurbed units...perhaps as a banker till the picture becomes a bit clearer.

Just wondered if there were any resellers that anyone would be able to recommend/ has had good experience with....

Thanks in advance...

Likewise. If you're going to buy from Apple wait till the machine you want is available refurb. The saving is well worth having and the condition is identical to new.

With the Apple stores only recently starting to re-open it looks like they have had few upgrades/returns for a while. The refurbished store is looking pretty bare right now. Might take a few more months until it's back to normal.

Just had a look and yes there were very few machines on offer. However I had occasion to look a couple of weeks ago and it had lots. Just an observation.

I bought my most recent used Mac from MacFinder on eBay. No complains about the service. They answered all my questions and sorted me out with a price for upgrading the RAM from the original 16GB to 64GB.

Thanks for the feedback. Seems to be only a few lonely MacBooks on the Apple site at the moment as you say...
Going to keep looking!

I’m in a similar situation where I could really do with a new Mac but unsure to wait to get a refurb. I came across this website in a google search: https://www.macstoreuk.com
I haven’t used them before so can’t vouch for them but prices seem good.

Well spotted  - looks like things are moving again!
Been thinking that I really only want to use Apple for this if the right spec come up.

2 of my 3 iMacs both came with more VRAM than advertised! Very helpful since one was the photography machine. They also come looking like brand new, new keypads and mouse. I’ve recommended to our youngest for his next Mac purchase.

Well - mission accomplished - just put an order in to Apple for a refurbished iMac Pro.
Pleased to say they even let me add Apple Care and do it on 0% finance too!

As a happy iMac Pro owner I can say you certainly will. Because of the way they price Apple Care it's a bit of a bargain on the Pro.

Just realising all the VST's that now need de authorised and re installed!
Maybe it is time to do a bit of pruning and stick to what I actually use on a regular basis...
