Logic 10.6.0 is out

Postby desmond » Thu Nov 12, 2020 10:11 pm

Catalina only. :(

Main news is support for M1 Macs & Big Sur.

It may not be in your local AppStore yet (Apple has released multiple GB of updates including Big Sur, FCPX, Motion, Mainstage etc ready for the M1 Macs being shipped, apparently the delivery network might need some time to update everything), and we're also waiting for proper release notes.

Headlines:

- Improved performance and efficiency on Mac computers with Apple silicon
- Adds the ability to control Step Sequencer using Logic Remote on your iPad or iPhone to create beats, bass lines, and melodic parts
- Supports all Novation Launchpad controllers
- Stability and performance improvements (edited)

Full release notes (all those lovely bugfixes I can't use! :wtf: ):

Me neither I’m on Mojave so holding on 10.5.1 for my main system. I’ll keep an eye out for any new “peculiarities” with third party software for a while......

I'm downloading it at the moment. Personally I'm just impressed that the piece of software I bought (probably the most expensive 'add-on' I've purchased) for £159 six years ago is still putting out updates and improvements for free.

 How can they improve performance and efficiency on Apple silicon when this is the first version that can run on Apple silicon?

Downloaded Catalina less than a day before it was replaced by Big Sur so I can take my time on when to upgrade. From what Desmond says, though, there's nothing compelling any rush yet.

The upgrade mentions a key command to toggle all plugins on a channel strip on and off. I didn't even know this was a key command in 10.5. Anyone know what it is, couldn't find it in the key command editor. Search 'plugin' and get no suggestions!

Logic's performance with 10.6 will be improved running on Apple Silicon Macs, as previous versions would only contain Intel code and thus run emulated under Rosetta2, where the performance would not be as good.

It just means 10.6.0 runs natively on Apple Silicon, and faster.

Aha! That pesky hyphen was the culprit. Cheers.
