MacBook Pro - replacement battery recommendations?

Postby BobTheDog » Sat Apr 03, 2021 8:42 pm

So my 2010 MacBook Pro battery has decided to die, damn it.

We have the ifixit replacement at 90 quid and a load of others around 30 quid.

Has anyone got any recommendations of a good quality cheaper manufacturer, or is it common sense and just go for the 90 quid?

I recently had Apple replace my iPhone SE (gen 1) battery, and now it behaves as new. Apple also replace Macbook batteries. https://support.apple.com/en-gb/mac/repair/service

It's more expensive, not a surprise, but is guaranteed to work.

Thanks for the info.

Apple don't replace batteries for this model unfortunately otherwise I would have gone for it.

Apple have a policy that anything over 5 years old is 'vintage' and may not have the parts available. My battery swelled in my 2010 MBP sometime in 2016 iirc. I _think_ that I went with someone reputable like iFixit for the replacement as it came with tools and an instruction video on youtube which was clear and easy to follow. But I have vague memories of it only being about 50quid. I still use it several times a week for Zoom sessions .. so it's doing ok on the non-Apple part ..

;)

Thanks Dave, I’d be happy with 50 quid. 90 quid is a bit too far though :)

I have ripped the battery out so at least the fear of fire has now gone when connected to the power supply, it was getting really hot even when not powered on.
