Best way to learn Logic

Postby » Sun May 02, 2021 11:56 am

Hi there! I’ve got years of experience performing and some recording. Moving into production/editing/arranging etc for clients - I’m brand new and find it VERY hard learning by myself - want to learn Logic Pro inside out. What’s the best way? Uni.....? I’m looking at point blank London.

I've been using the Tube of You to learn the all the various ins and outs of Logic.
There are many videos on all aspects from introduction to in-depth.

I kinda like "Why Logic Pro Rules" - he's methodical and focused. But there are many others.

Cheers, Glenn

I've used David Nahmani's "Logic Pro X 10.5" book (in the Apple Pro Training Series). I think its a good survey of the program, and I like the serendipity of flipping through a book. Videos seem good for getting deeper on specific technique (and of course the SOS articles).

David Nahmani's book is an excellent starting point.

Our resident Logic expert here is Desmond. Buy him beer..........

Learn the function of each of the workspaces, arrange page, waveform editor, etc. Then, when you know what they do, start using the program.

Whilst using the program, notice what you find yourself using often (a workspace, a menu, etc.,) and then open up the manual and learn all about that item.

Don't overlook the logic manual as it's just excellent. It's both exhaustive and easy to understand.

Also don’t overlook video tutorials such as,

I’ve used these back in the day, and they’ve really helped turn the manual into workflow.

I’d exhaust these possibilities before jumping into academia....

I'll teach you EVERYTHING you need to know about using Logic right now......

DON'T.....get something else.

It's way more of a PITA than it will ever be worth.

I'm not D@#k ridding Protools and don't use it today either, but when I switched to Logic I was "retiring" from Producing/engineering/mixing (To save my sanity....too late I guess.)
And to focus on composing. The company I worked with used Logic as the standard DAW, so composers could easily swap around sessions, have a standardized set of tools blah. blah....

The point is....I could not BELIVE how the most basic things had been implemented in Logic...stuff that was beyond basic turned into A THING. I also noticed the program was NEVER operational to the point of meeting pro standards, it's a deep program, and a lot of things in there don't work as intended......but the official "Logic forum" will not admit ANY faults or accept ANY criticism until AFTER the problem you've identified, has been fixed.

I'd suggest Reaper if you don't want to spend much. Protools or Cubase if you do.

You see, it SHOULDN'T be that hard for you to pick up.....and I'll bet on one of those other DAWS you'd be having an easier and more productive time.

Oh, and just so you know, I became highly proficient at the use of Logic. Turn on any bad reality show, now in syndication, you may very well be hearing the fruits of my labour.

...But it was too much unnecessary labor, too much of which made little sense.

I totally agree with with terrible dee.

I spent over 10 years with Logic. I Was an Apple trainer and am very glad to be out.

I liked neither the software or the people. I do use Pro tools sometimes but really love Reaper.
