Why am I getting glitches?

Postby oggyb » Tue Apr 26, 2011 8:19 pm

Even when I have the buffer set to 896 samples, and the processor is seemingly working at 5%?

I'm running the free version of Kore and Kontakt, with a few HalionOne instances and 14 plugins, a few of which are intensive but not THAT much. My processor is an AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black, I have 4GB RAM and run the 64bit version of Windows 7.

It's definitely a full-buffer sound, though I got a similar effect using the horrible little M-Audio Transit a couple of years ago.

I hate to point out the obvious as its been said before but glitches are usually down to soundcard drivers. Are you certain you have the correct and upto date driver selected in your chosen sequencer?

Try to lower the buffer. Also I agree with daposti, are usually down to soundcard drivers, you should check driver/firmware update for your OS. You may try to use third party drivers (like asio4all) and tweak the parameters there.

Are you using a laptop? Try disabling your wireless… fixed my problem.

Thanks, I hadn't considered the drivers as they're up to date as far as I'm aware. I'm not able to test on an external interface at the moment so. . . . but that's only a temporary blip.

Lengthening the buffer decreases the problem, shortening it brings the glitches back very quickly.

It might be tough luck for a while then.

Sorry if I'm stating the obvious, but assuming your drivers are okay, have you tried running the DPC Latency checker?
