Stereo Width Effect

Postby Lens » Tue May 10, 2011 6:05 pm

Hello

I've seen settings in certain VSTs called "stereo width" which makes the sound sound stereo without panning the whole sound, and I can still pan the sound seperately ( Native Instruments Akoustik Piano, FM8 ).

I wanted to know firstly what this effect does, and how I would go about achieving the same effect on a sample that wasn't from one of these VSTs.

Appreciated.

Hi Lens, and welcome to the SOS Forums! 8-)

As you’re posting this in the PC Music forum, why not have a read of this feature I wrote for SOS January 2007 entitled ‘Stereo Image Trickery With PC Plug-ins’:

www.soundonsound.com/SOS/jan07/articles ... n_0107.htm

It covers all of the options, covering plenty of freeware and commercial plug-ins along the way.

Hope it helps!
