is there any reason i cant set the sample rate to 96khz and use it for windows sounds ect like you tube vids and online radio ?

if i change it in the pci console from 44.1 to 96 im not getting any output for some reason?

Yes, Windows simply doesn't like it and won't work at higher sample rates. Windows will do on-the-fly sample rate conversions up to a certain point, but certainly not from 96kHz down to 44.1.

well in advanced settings for windows all i have have is 2 options 44.1 cd or 48 dvd.

is this a hardware problem ie the motherboard and the pci 424 card as it is a tyan server board would a up to date system not suffer from this or be the same ?

Pretty much everything online is going to be 44.1 or 48kHz so why not just allow the software to choose the sample rate it needs? Or does the 2408 not allow the software to set the sample rate?

it does go to 44.1 or 48 but anything over this and nothing i thought these days i could wack it up as high as i wanted as got a hd 192 sat here doing nothing atm and wanted to use it at that rate with my genelec 1038s.

if i use nuendo ect then can set it to what i like but in windows not having it and limited to just 2 options 44.1 or 48.

i mean if i can watch 4k vids on you tube why is the sample rate so low ? i mean the files are massive so why not 24bit 192khz audio with the 4k footage ?

You are more likely to get 192kb/s AAC audio on Youtube, rather than 192kHz uncompressed audio. High sample rate sources will probably require more specialist players like VLC which will be able to access your interface directly.

Because it's all smoke and mirrors, and there's absolutely no point whatsoever. 48kHz gets the job done perfectly well... :-D
