Win 7 update failed

Postby mick.n » Wed Mar 06, 2019 2:51 pm

Has anyone had problems with windows update when trying to install these 2 updates? (On win 7 pro 64bit)

Monthly roll up updates (kb4486563 and kb4486565)

Tried all the possible fixes i have found on the web but still refuses to install.

I seem to remember i had a problem with win update on my laptop some years ago & ended up having to do a clean install.........hope this is not the case this time.

I had a couple of the latest updates fail two days ago, I'm not at my computer right now so don't know if they are the same as yours. Yesterday again updates were available, this time four, the two that failed and two new ones, and this time one out of the four failed. After the restart I tried installing the one that failed and it was successful. Very strange, this is the first time this has happened to me.

Clear the windows update download cache and then try downloading and installing them manually.

Had a notification for new updates for 6/3/19 but when I tried to download and install them the bar was moving but I got "0 download, 0 installed" Task Manager showed a connection of 72M(? I only test out at 24M DLD at best) but zero network activity.

A check of the installed downloads to date showed all important ones to be successfully installed. The two that won't were optional.

"Clearing the update cache" I looked the process up Pete and it looked dangerous to a PC numpty like me so, If it Ain't Broke (much) I shan't try to fix it thanks.

Thanks Gents, still trying various fixes . Peter........I tried that but still no good.

I even tried a win 7 repair install the over day, but ended up having more problems with net framework refusing to install (required by Kaspersky total security). Consequently, Kaspersky refused to run giving an error message on each boot up.

Hmmm... some kind of conflict going on then!

I know it doesn't help you, but on mu own win7-64 platform kb4486563 was installed successfully on 13 feb, and I installed the optional kb4486565 and kb4487256 previews today without any problems.

Just a thought: have you got the kb4487078 and kb4486563 (security and quality rollups) already installed? These were part of the standard update in Feb for me... and I just wondered whether the latest optional previews required those previous files to be present?

About 30 mins ago, after closing some stuff down I had a screen saying "restart PC to install downloaded updates" .

did that and LOW! I now have the optional updates installed that "didn't" download!

Ah well, shan't have to bother anyway soon!

Thanks again all.

Hugh "Just a thought: have you got the kb4487078 and kb4486563 (security and quality rollups) already installed? "

Did a search of installed updates & kb4487078 was not present....also kb4486563 was not present.

That happened to me & i thought that was the end of the problem.......still wont install monthly roll up updates (kb4486563 and kb4486565)

After a few fruitless days faffing with this, i decided to go back to an image i made mid December (Thanks to Macrium)

I only made a few alterations/new program installs between then & now so it didn't take too long. The rogue windows updates are now installed.

Thanks again for taking the time to reply Gents.
