This is nothing to do with the quality of the PCB, the socket or the product in general. That board looks like almost any other that I have met in the last 20 years and much the same stamp as those we see in vastly more costly gear in SOS WHEN we get a gutshot of decent resolution!

My offer was a genuine one, if you want to take advantage PM me and I will give you an address.

Dave.

I have sent you a pm

Nothing has happened so far?

Dave.

Looked at the PCB a few days ago and decided to do something simple instead like learn Mandarin!

Ok, got back on it today..GEEEZ! Stuff is SO wee these days. I managed to clean the print and the holes, the solder is "hotter" than any I have come across before and there were two pads missing. However I fitted the socket and linked down to the print, more in hope than expectation, and LOW! The bugger metered thru and no shorts!

The AI is constructed in two halves and I only had the bottom half so we shall have to wait until it is reassembled before we can know if it works.

The PCB is of excellent quality and easily on a par with the stuff I saw in the network industry.
The exercise has however taught me that it is tme for me to hang up my solder iron, at leas for anything smaller than a TRS plug!

Sending it off the morrow.

Dave.

Well done that man
It really is a challenge these days, and if it makes you feel any better, a lad half our age where I used to work says he ends up with a stinking headache after a couple of hours on this stuff - the work I used to do there!

Well I am pleased to report back that I received the K6 back from Dave who kindly worked on installing the usb (confirmed that the solder was indeed one of the hardest to melt) and the unit is working perfectly, even after having my novice mits all over it.

So thanks everyone for the help and so glad I went with a pro on this as it wasn't going well and would have ended in tears.

And the biggest thanks to Dave for rescuing my sanity.

Not on your Nelly Will! I shall never again put myself up for such a job. Very stressful even though I was not under any pressure at all from the OP* As Dirty Harry said "A man's otta know his limitations" and mine have come in shedloads!

I am very glad the KA6 works again. No one is more surprised than I that it is the case.

Let me state for the record? The internals of the AI are up to excellent electronics standards. The components are as I would expect to see in a £200 ish piece of kit and the PCB quality first class. That the kit is hard to work is a result of US wanting it not to cost £1000 and not be the size of a Fender Blue Breaker!
Bottom line the NI KA6 is an excellent AI and better IMHO than many at its price point WRT supeb drivers and low latency.

*Why does this W10 laptop keep slamming in a black icon about the size of a 1st c stamp with a white 'A' on it with a line through it? Oh! Not an A it is a house or home symbol..

Dave

This is a great community, and I for one frequently feel unworthy of it! :)

It certainly makes a change to have someone praised for being a sucker (of the solder variety of course ;) )

Bravo Dave!

I think the K6 must have been built with spot welding. Hopefully it should last me a few more years. I think the flashing led when it misses the handshake has also stopped at boot up. You had to leave it a few seconds before pressing the on switch on the pc for it to connect. If it didn’t, you had to unplug the usb and re insert for it to work.
