Intel dp35dp - Can I install windows 10?

Postby Johnny Stecchino » Thu Apr 16, 2020 5:21 pm

Hi,
In the last 3 years I didn’t use my desktop and now decided to reuse it if possible.
I have the old DP35DP MOBO of Intel and tried to install windows 10 64bit on it (still got XP 32bit) to no avail. In their site intel gives the Windows 7 as last option and I didn’t find any proper answer on the net for this question.
Does anyone here had a successful installation on this MOBO?

Thanks in advance!

Hi resistorman,
Point was to move to a 64bit system so I can use 8GB ram, otherwise will stay with XP.
If can’t do it the 10 way will opt for windows 7.

The chances are you may have to try this yourself, so if you have a spare drive you can download the Windows image from the MS site to try it in trial mode, with whatever last set of drivers you can find given that most w7 drivers work on w10 for a lot of kit.

Given that generation of the board, I would have said no, as support would have been dropped long before W10. But being an Intel model the parts were always well supported and drivers often worked across OS generations, so I wouldn't be surprised if some support existed for the majority if not all of it, but it might take some digging around.

Well, with that said with it being Intel I also wouldn't be that surprised if enough were in the base W10 image to get it working either. intel stopped selling consumer boards during the W7 generation, so I wouldn't be shocked at the download page being poorly maintained even if they did exist.

Thnx Pete,
actually before writing here I did burn a W10 image to a DVD but my system didn’t even boot from the dvd, just didn’t recognized it. I double checked with a laptop which has W7 as OS and it did recognize the DVD so this is where my doubts started and I posted here.

Assuming you've got the optical set up in the boot order correctly on that Intel board, the DVD should at least run and get past the first part with keyboard & language selection.

Try burning on another brand of media if you can, or/and try another optical drive if possible.

Will do shortly and will report.

Cheers!

Yeah, I can see a load of MAC forum questions about this too, mostly to do with dual booting none MAC OS builds. MAC's were using Intel hardware at that point though, so I wouldn't rule this out as a possible fix.

I followed a few threads through people doing W8.1 installs were stating that this following method works.

The guy is running Linux but suggests it should work for any OS, for want of a better suggestion It might be worth a last-ditch attempt before falling back to W7.

Pete, you are my man!
I had actually another problem to resolve later, since windows didn’t recognize my SSD but found this link which helped to resolve the problem:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tgQ-KP0Zh8U

So now I can confirm:

It is possible to instal and run W10 64 bit on the Intel DP35DP (what an upgrade - had XP 32 before...).

Thanks again!

The best medium for installing Windows 10 is the installation disk.

Great board, the DP35DP (I still get slightly nostalgic about it, specifically about how it solved all my PCI Overflow error messages when I was using Creamware DSP cards).
