Track input noise

Postby MM205 » Sat May 02, 2020 4:04 pm

I have a new Win 10 Workstation. Using the same hardware and DAW software that was used with my old Win 7 machine. All is normal until I arm a track and use an amp plugin or anything with distortion. The noise floor increases as expected but with high-pitched squealing and buzzing. It’s not deafening, but it is annoying.

There is no issue if I use a clean guitar signal and even turn it up to clip. As soon as I add distortion I get the noise.

Again, this did not occur with my old Win 7 box.

Has anyone experienced this and fixed it? Thanks.

Low level constant ground-loop noise becoming audible with high gain/compression settings? Work through the usual ground-loop problem solving steps.

Hi MM205, and welcome to the SOS Forums! 8-)

Hugh's advice is spot-on, but on the off chance that you're not familiar with digital ground loops and how to track down the culprits, here's a step-by-step guide I wrote for SOS some time ago that may help:
