Selling my synth sounds.

Postby Stickman0_3 » Sat Nov 07, 2020 1:40 pm

Hi

I program sounds for hardware synths -

Yamaha AN1x
Roland JP8080
Yamaha CS6x
Kawai K5000S / R
Casio CZ-1
Yamaha SY35
Roland SH32
Korg MS2000
Korg Monologue

The list may grow.

Sounds are in midi file format.

I am always on the lookout for places to sell my sounds. I've spent hours on these. Can you suggest any sites. Any ideas? Can I sell on here, for instance? I would sell through the classified ads.

Why don't you make a website, then you can point people there to browse, audition and buy your sounds?

The Mods may correct me but I'm sure selling through the classifieds here would be acceptable. Likewise using the News forum when you have significant new collections available would probably be within the rules.

OK, thanks. Would a moderator care to comment just to make sure?

Hi, I'm a moderator

Yes, I see no reason why you can't post news about your latest releases in our New Products & Industry News forum.

It's not selling as such, but you'll be providing a link to your web site, so anyone who's interested can find out more by clicking on that.

I do not have a link to a website. I'm still wondering how to do this. In the meantime, could I put a link to my advert on Gumtree?

I'm not a potential customer so take this with a pinch of salt, but I wouldn't buy from anything other than a 'legitimate' website.
Your experience may be good with gumtree but I would seriously recommend looking at something like Wix or WordPress to create a simple website.
Just my tuppence-worth.

How do you 'deliver' the sounds? Downloads or physical medium?

If it's a physical medium you could think about selling via EBay.

I deal with two very small companies that supply quality products. They only way of buying from them is via EBay. They have both set-up 'EBay Shops'. Works for me!

And, sadly, Gumtree doesn't have a very good reputation. Not a good medium if you want to present as 'professional' and competent. :)

Hi Mike

I deliver the sounds via download. If I sold on ebay would I have to have a business account? At present I'm just a private seller. Does it cost anything to set up a shop?

A good start!

However, most people will expect to see how many presets are included (to gauge value for money, although your prices are extremely reasonable).

The second thing is that you really do need some audio demos to establish the quality of your sounds. eBay probably won't let you host audio demos, but you could link to those using a free Soundcloud account, and have a link to them in your 'New Products & Industry News' post.

Hope this helps!
