Hi everyone,
I’m not sure if this is old news or not, but does everyone know you can get a free VST sequencer called Cakewalk by Bandlab. Just go to www.bandlab.com/products/cakewalk and download it. It has a lot of built in guitar amps which I haven’t really tried yet. I hope this is news to some people.
Cheers, Paul

There's also another nice one called Protools, but it's not free!!
Just kidding Paul, it's not a given people knows of these products. I've used CW for the last 8-9 years and I can confirm is damn good, even better now that it is free.

Re: Free VST sequencer
Thanks for the heads up. I’ve just installed on my old laptop which I use to control my XR18 mixer. I’ll be able to use Cakewalk to record practices / gigs (whenever that may be). I had been using Reaper for this but I’m already finding Cakewalk a little more straightforward (I use Cubase in my home studio).

Re: Free VST sequencer
Im still comming to terms with this with my therapist.
In the 80's, I started using a gateway midi sequencer purely for recreation, 12tone's Cakewalk but then I got the habit and started using stronger and more powerfull computers. It was only a couple of decades before I was on Cakewalk Sonar, doing MIDI and audio together in vast quantities, at a cost of > £100 an upgrade every couple of years. Then band lab made it free, better than ever, bigger than ever. It blew my mind.
Therapist says I should use Reaper. Its awsome too but they charge a nomial fee every
2_major_version_upgrades which reduces the Talent/Cost ratio guilt.
pah ! I ll stick with what I know !
{its just a shame taht the Roland V-Vocal "vst" is so tightly integrated with the old sonar & not transferable}

Re: Free VST sequencer
Snap, I bought nearly every upgrade to X1 Producer Extended it whatever it was called, and the new free Bandlab blows them all away.
?? I installed the Bandlab version without uninstalling my X1 and V-Vocal just shows up as a VST.

Re: Free VST sequencer
but does it work ????? Last time I tried I dont think it did.
I think -
V-Vocal was the property of Roland and not included in the Bandlab deal.
The VST is just an enhanced GUI with links to the algorithm gubbins inside Sonar ?
Whereas eg the Lexicon Pantheon reverb is a normal VST and will transfer across no problem.
maybe things have moved on and I need to reinstall my last SONAR to try it out ?

I think I started using Sonar with X1 and it was included, but since I bought Melodyne I haven't looked back.
Best of luck! Interesting to know the result.

Yes it works fine. With my singing I have to use it all the time :D ;)
You might need to uninstall Bandlab, install X1 or whatever your latest is, then reinstall Bandlab.
Or buy Melodyne, I tried the demo and it’s better I think, but I don’t have the spare cash.

Im still not getting it :headbang:
Aftfer wiping al versions, I installed Sonar 6, which was when I 1st got V-Vocal, then the updates to Sonar Producer 1.d
V-Vocal is in the DX directory [and working in Sonar] but no sign of it in Bandlab when I right click on audio or look in the plug in manager ?????? :(
any ideas ?

Have you told the Bandlab version where to look for it?

Re: Free VST sequencer
Good point James as the VST directory is listed in the plug in manager but "shared_DXi" isn't.
I tried that and got V-Vocal working but when I took DXi out of the directory list it still worked so Im not sure if that made a difference.
What I did do, was notice that the V vocal option is now in
<right click> Region FX > V-vocal > etc
Some where in X2, X3 & Platinum the option moved in the menu system !
thanks for the encouragement to perservere
RESULT
