Ok long story short I want to use my gaming PC for basic tinkering about with. I can’t justify buying an interface just yet, at least not a decent one, so I’m going to be using ASIO4ALL. Specs are 6 gigs of RAM, AMD quad core CPU, around about 2.5 GHz and AMD 1GB GPU. I’m not able right at this minute to get the specifics but I’m pretty sure speeds and RAM are correct
I know it’s a case of “how long is a piece of string” but what would be a good starting point for buffer size?
Bear in mind this is only for playing about with, it won’t be used for serious studio use at this stage!

Set it as low as you can. If your playback acts up, increases it a notch and try again. Rinse and repeat until things work smoothly.
