Have you explored the Drummer in GarageBand?

If you have an iPad you already have it available free. It was designed to be straightforward to use like EZ-Drummer and has a lot of free expansions to download for lots of different genres of music.

Works really well with pad devices via a USB adaptor as well.

I haven't fully explored it Andy, so maybe I should give it a chance.

Shuffle, when you say pad devices, i'm not quite sure what you mean, do you mean there are external hardware you can use to program ?

Lots of nice suggestions in here...

...including my own contribution regarding the Korg nanopad which can connect to the iPad by way of the old Camera Connection Kit or similar adaptor.

I sometimes use a USB3 hub and power bank to maintain battery life but it's not a prerequisite.
