BREAKING NEWS

Postby Folderol » Sun Oct 14, 2018 7:18 pm

I've just been informed that someone has ported a version of Yoshimi to WebAssembly :bouncy:

This means you can now run it in a web browser. Currently it is Chrome only.
As well as the virtual keyboard, you can play connected to a MIDI keyboard, and select all the standard banks and programs.

No editing features are currently available.

Nice one. I know little about Linux, but when my Pisound turns up I'll be trying to ask intelligent questions like, "Is this available as an LV2 plugin"...

I'm a beginner with Linux and the Raspberry Pi, but currently experimenting with getting the LV2 version of Yoshimi running under the Mod Duo emulator on the Pi.

I'm a bit confused at the moment since "sudo apt-get install yoshimi" reports: "yoshimi is already the latest version (1.5.0-3)", though it's up to 1.5.9.

The RaspberryPi linux is based on the 'stable' version of the debian distribution, so everything you install with apt-get will be of that vintage. Yoshimi 1.5.0 came out in December 2016, whereas 1.5.9 was September this year!

It should still work although there are quite a few features that won't be there. If you are unfamiliar with both Linux and compiling code I wouldn't recommend that route to get the latest version. I don't know if the RasPi supports upgrading to debian 'testing' but that is currently carrying Yoshimi 1.5.8.2 which came out in June this year.

Finally, although you shouldn't have problems with Yoshimi as an LV2 plugin I generally go against the 'informed wisdom' and advise using it stand-alone. There is less of an overhead - which can be important with a low powered CPU, some features are easier to realise, and others simply aren't possible as a plugin.

HTH.
