MIDI in and Audio out over lightning

Postby edinburghadam » Sat Sep 12, 2020 9:48 pm

On my old iPhone I could use the lightning port (with lightning to USB adapter) to play software instruments (eg GarageBand) over midi while listening to the audio out from headphones in the headphone jack.

I’ve not found any way to do something similar with my new iPhone which lacks the headphone jack.

Does anyone know of an adapter (or lightweight interface) that I could use to accomplish this?

Thanks!

You'll need a USB class compliant audio interface with MIDI. I'm not sure if there are any that are particularly compact but the Zoom U-24 and U-44 were designed to be iOS compatible although unfortunately no longer available new.

Thanks James. I’ll look out for those interfaces you mention 2nd hand... Didn’t realise that I’d miss the headphone jack till I tried to do this!
