The lack of Blue speakers in your AC30 wont stop you getting the sound you are after. But, as a worthy alternative, make sure you go for the Celestion Greenback G12 speaker. These are more "bluesy" and slightly warmer - they may even suit your sound better.

The Blue speakers are quite brittle when cranked up (they CAN be harsh) but very papery and creamy soundind at the same time.

If you want that Jimmy Page sound, you're probably looking at either using the "Bright" channel with some kind of Booster or, the Normal channel with a Treble Booster. Most of the 70's guitar players (Clapton, Page, May, Gallagher etc) achieved there sounds with Treble Boosters.

Cheers.

i have an ac30 with blues and feel they are better and worth the money. You may have problems though to begin with as i have. They come with cheap chinese valves and mine didn't last more than a few months before changing. The grill can start to come away and need reglueing in and the reverb (on mine anyway)was rubbish from day one. Didn't realise at first but on checking two of the springs in the tray had come out. im getting an accutronics replacement. Dont mean to moan as it is a quality amp but you pay enough money so should get quality build too.

You'll pay as much for Greenbacks as you will for Blues, and they'll be re-issues. A bit expensive if you have to replace the two speakers which come with the AC30.

There are Greenbacks and Greenbacks, with originals changing hands for hundreds of dollars, and a (pretty strong) school of thought that says the reissues are not as good.

For a brain-numbingly tedious analysis of Greenbacks past and present, see here.

I have the Custom Classic cc2x with the blue speakers and I love them. Well worth the extra money.
It has been in for repair twice since I have had it. Basically though it was the same problem and was sorted out the second time. The Rectifier valve heater was seeing way above the 5v it needed from the transformer. This resulted in the rectifier blowing. After blowing a lovely old Mullard replacement from the first repair, the problem was sorted out. Love the sound of this amp.
A really good booster to get for it is the Bad Bob Booster available from analogman.com. It's very quiet considering the amount of gain it has and sounds sweet with the AC30.
All the best.

That's why I won't buy a Vox now. Reliability is a problem. It was with the TBX UK-made amps and it is now with the Chinese amps.

Oh, undoubtedly so but there's a level of failure that goes beyond 'needs regular servicing' and enters the camp marked 'Vox use too many cheap shitty components'. I'll give a quick hello to the Vox Cambridge that lasted 20 minutes this weekend after being unwrapped :)

So - I have a G12S 20 watter from the Rola Celestion Ipswich Suffolk days.
Where does that fit into the scheme of things?

Also the earliest Celestions I ever saw WERE labelled Rola Celestion & were made in London.
Go figure....

Is that a real British fiver, or a Eurofiver?

So what can you tell me about the speaker, apart from I reckon when I finally get the cabinet made for the Deluxe it will be the ideal speaker, since I can`t afford a Weber or similar.

The amp sounds so good already even through the Session bass cab I am using I can`t wait for the rain to stop s0o I can get in the shed and make the box!
I even have some nice old 23mm pine board.

Britfiver, Eurofiver, Usafiver..

No special knowledge, just sounds collectable so worth trying to pull a fast one ;)

You smooth talking bar steward, you! Alright, you an have my Fender 12" speaker for a fiver plus postage. Did I mention it had a fried voice coil? Gives it that extra crispy sound.... Think I`ll keep the celestion though.
