Good guitar tech required in Newcastle

Postby Helmutcrab » Sat May 03, 2008 8:19 pm

Hi,
Im looking for a good competent tech in or around Newcastle to refit a couple of nuts that have been badly fitted causing tuning problems. I live in Durham but anywhere within 12 or so miles i can manage.
Thanks,
Peter

Hey friend, i live in Sunderland not far from you. Nut Refitting should not be too big a task, have you tried asking at your local guitar shop? Im sure shops like Guitar Guitar in Newcaslte, or Dolphin Music in the metro centre will have techs on hand who can do that sort of thing. As for pro luthiers in the North East i do not know of any :frown:

I'm in Newcastle and I've looked for someone good for years. In the end I've sent my Strat to Jim Fleeting in Ripon for a refret and some other work. It should be back in a week or so.

I got the recommendation here:

Best tech in the North East is Alan Brason - North Shields area. I've had set-ups, re-frets & guitars made by him. Reasonable rates and a thoroughly nice bloke.

Also Neil used to work on the 3rd floor above Sound Control. Great tech, slightly more expensive but he needs to pay for city centre rates. Get in touch with him via Sounds Live. He set my Lowden up. Good job.

Don't know how the Sound Control demise has affected the Newcastle store & therefore Neil, though....

There's another guy in South Tyneside called Les Tones. He used to do tech work for Chris Rea. Heard good reports about him as well... A few mates use his services regularly. Not expensive & will talk guitars all day...
