i'm not an electronics expert but cheap ad/da converters with poor clocks and prob a limitation of 16 bits and no drivers is gonna give poor performance and poor results. much better to have a simple bypass box with (analogue)output going to a proper recording card such as the emu 0404 or audiophile 2496, cheap but GOOD cards. the guitar signal is gonna be weak so if you don't have any sort of speaker emulation/preamp in your chain you'll need to run thru a pre-amp/hi-z input too...

Thanks for the advice, I couldn't find anything which anyone seemed to be fit for the purpose in the end so I guess I'll just put a send/return jack on it.
