Just out of curiosity, what if we posted a link to a blog or a YouTube video as a way of citing our source? So not saying "watch this video and it will explain it" but more "I saw a video that said this ... and I think it's true because .... here's the video if you want to check it out"

That's perfectly OK, in those circumstances you are using a 3rd party resource either to help answer a question here or start a discussion here.

What we are trying to avoid are spammers who post here not to contribute but to drive traffic to their site/blog/YouTube channel. Sound On Sound has very good Search Engine Optimisation so reviews, news stories and articles appear very high on Google search results, but so do forum posts and posting links here can (and does) push those linked sites up the search engine rankings.

The moderator team and web team have to clear up a lot of spam posts for all sorts of stuff, but we usually do that before the spam appears in the public forums.
