'Hex wrench' (Allen key?) for Line 6 Helix?

Postby The Elf » Mon Aug 20, 2018 2:34 pm

Obviously (!?) I've lost the 'Hex wrench' that came with my Helix ( ). Does anyone know what size I need to buy as a replacement?

I'd just go for the two sets listed at

https://www.toolstation.com/shop/p62318

then you'll be ready for most eventualities (unless they decide to use Torx screws).

Thanks, that's a good idea.

For anyone else, it's an 8mm 'Hex Wrench'.

I'm just kind of amazed that you didn't have a complete set of metric and imperial keys already.

I'm more surprised that one of his many studio employees didn't have a set. ;)

 Let me dispel the disillusionment...

But I will be instigating the Friday beating for those responsible for not having keys up to 8mm. You have to set the line somewhere... ;)

On the note of the Helix expression pedal, there are a small number of slightly disturbing reports on the helix forum that they might not be as robust as - say - an FC300* which scare me.

I recently bought one of the Zoom expression pedals as recommended by a youtuber and regular helix forum contributor Pete Hamm to use as a wah/pitch pedal. Its TRS rather than TS so you need to make a custom cable to use it but its difficult to imagine a better new metal expression pedal for £40 delivered.

* (ehem) Dave B's FC300. I really must give it him back!

I hope the Helix's own pedal *is* robust, because it's about to get a lot of hammer from a man and a Mellotron!

I actually need a pair of pedals for my purposes. After trying a few less than satisfactory outboard pedals I opted for one of the uber-expensive Mission 'made for Helix' models. Although I winced at the price they really are made to a very high standard and once I paid off the credit card I was actually quite satisfied with my purchase.

If I had the money for that, I'd upgrade to Logic X!

The Mission pedal is also offered by Kemper on their site (in green to match the head) but I bought a Boss FV-500H which I've been very happy with. Since I use the expression pedal to morph between rhythm and lead sounds it gets used on almost every song (and I give it some heavy wellie on stage).

I did have to look twice to believe the price, but it really is built very, VERY well and I really don't regret it. I'd certainly buy another now I know what I get for my money.

But yeah, it's no casual purchase.
