Cheap pickup for steel string acoustic

Postby ben howes » Tue Jun 18, 2019 8:03 pm

Hello, I need to amplify my acoustic. Probably going into a Roland cube or powered pa speaker. Don't need anything fancy and is just for solo or duo work.
I have an unbranded piezo (black oblong 1x1x3cm) that's about 30 years old and the microphonics of the cable make it almost unusable.
Any bang for buck suggestions would be welcome. Thanks

The easiest way is probably a soundhole pick-up. You can pick up models from the likes of Fishman and Seymour-Duncan for around the £50 mark that sound pretty good.

I've used one of these in the past, perfectly respectable and much cheaper than the Fishman Rare Earth's I use now. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Artec-MSP-50-Soundhole-Pickup-For-Acoustic-6-or-12-String-Guitar/192449802908?epid=6014509871&hash=item2ccee6f29c:g:RugAAOSwDApaexrM

The Artec sounds really good, and was easy to fit. Came with bare wire ending but I enjoy a little bit of soldering. Thanks for the suggestion.

I'm glad it worked for you, I had one and later fitted it to a mate's guitar. Very decent for the price, to see a useful improvement I went to Fishman Rare Earths which are definitely better but at least 5x the price.
