Hey there

I'm looking for a guitar (clip)tuner that's not just showing me visually how detuned my guitar ist but also acoustically (like these old big Boss tuners some players still use in the studio).
Any suggestions?

I'm not sure what you mean? A link to a pic or old review of the 'big old Boss tuners' might help but what do you mean by 'acoustically'?

If you mean that it actually generates an audible tone then I'd look to phone apps. The tech to make the tone is simple and the hardware is probably already in your pocket.

My main tuner is my ancient Boss TU-12 which I've owned since 1984. It doesn't have any option to generate a reference tone for tuning. Neither does the TU-12H in the photo you posted.

Do you mean you are looking for a tuner with a built in microphone for acoustic instruments?

My recommendation for a clip on tuner is the Snark ones, especially as the model 2 can handle double-bass and mandolin.

Yes, I have loads of different tuners. The best IMHO are the Peterson Strobe tuners but in terms of VFM the Snark's take a lot of beating.

I'm not aware of any clip on tuner that produces an audible tone*, but as Zenguitar says neither does the one you linked to. Why do you want this or is it a different feature of the Boss TU12 that you are looking for?

Some of the Korg ones do. I also have an old Korg tuner that will generate a tone through the output jack.

Another plus for the snark, it has a built in mic as well as the vibration feature. It works ok for the most part as well.

To the OP

In the past when I've had to check the numbers on an accordion I clipped a guitar tuner to an appropriate resonator (piece of cardboard, CD case is good) which worked quite well.

For the record, tuning an accordion should only be attempted by a qualified veterinarian.
