I wonder if Behringer is going to make one?

(fingers crossed)

Maybe, but it’ll be slightly shorter, have a bigger boot, a computer under the bonnet and an electric motor somewhere, and it’ll be almost there, but not quite,

Behringer are teasing their CS-80 recreation:

"We have now officially started to work on one of the most exciting synthesizer projects.

Who can guess where this board comes from?"

Below this is the image of a CS-80 voice board.

Cue Mr Robjohns! ;)

When they've fixed their support portal so you can complete product registration and retain your sanity. I've tried and given up once already. And I struggle to read the serial numbers even with my reading glasses on.

Sadly, if they really have only just started on it, and bearing in mind the original design used custom ICs for the VCOs, VCFs, and VCAs, it's hard to envisage a production model before the middle of next year... I so hope I'm wrong...

Given how long we've been waiting for the OBXa recreation I really wouldn't hold my breath.

But patience is, indeed, a virtue.

With the CS-80 in proper development (not just renders) it will be interesting to see people go from "Behringer is bad, I've heard they treat their workers like dirt and steal all their ideas" to "I want a CS-80 clone and I want it now, If they whipped their employees and never allowed them to go home it might be ready quicker"

I think we have to look deeply at this whole vintage recreation thing, maybe I like a particular keyboard because one of my hero’s used one to create great albums with, and he created good sounds with it, but they aren’t the reasons we should be buying then for, I don’t want to sound like Vangelis on Blade Runner or anyone else for that matter, and the yardstick seems to be how close can we get to stuff like that.
It’s very easy to get exited bout these old keyboards, but they worked for the people that used them, at the time, we may or may not be able to use them at all, they may not suite us.
Manufacturers are playing on people’s memories of what others did with these things, it’s got absolutely no relevance to what’s we actually might want to do ourselves, unless you want to sound like and make covers of old tracks, or if you’re in a tribute band, in which case fine I guess.
