Aphex Twin / Air - what vocoder is this?

Postby Dan LB » Wed Sep 13, 2017 8:43 pm

Can anyone tell me what vocoder was used on the track 'How Does it Make You Feel' by Air from the album 10,000Hz Legend?

The same effect can be heard at the end of Aphex Twin's 'Ventolin (Crowsmengegus Mix)' @5.13

Thanks in advance!

It sounds identical to a Korg VC-10, as heard on 'Vocoder' by Isao Tomita (Bermuda Triangle, 1979) at the start of https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_i2tdReLOeM

Thanks baward.

On second thoughts I don't think it's actually a vocoder but a speech synthesis engine of some sort.

Ok I've found something that does it

Select 'whisper' as the voice.

Apple Mac OS X text to speech. Select the voice you want in System Preferences. It still has the older ones there, that Air used on that track.
