You and me both. Those prices are like precision guided missiles built with the single purpose of destroying my wallet.

Just to inject a dose of reality:

- None of you chaps need new synths.
- None of the sounds these synths can make are any different to ones you can already make.
- They're not going to add any value to your studio
- You just want new toys and distractions to play with

:bouncy:

Also: The news about the Bro-One seems to have dried up, amid rumours of legal wranglings.
I wonder if this isn't going to happen now?

Not that I need it, can't already make those sounds, and just want to play with it... :headbang:

Muchos grassy ass for the link.

Er ... well they were very enthusiastic. I'm sure that counts for a lot. Bless.

And as for reality? Nah ... I'm fine in my world thanks! :D

But... but... It's a VP-330!!! A VP-330! (minus an octave, but still...) :geek: :D

Must buy...

Charming, but certainly no expert.. didn't even know the difference between 4op FM and 6op..
When he started comparing Uli Behringer to genuinely great engineers like Bob Moog, Don Buchla and Alan Pearlman I wanted to punch the screen.. Sycophant expert maybe :headbang: :madas: :madas:

I'm trying really hard to be positive and keep my karma on track, but things like that just make it difficult. Being constructive, if I were to offer some feedback, I'd suggest that

1. They have the units with a bunch of step sequencers and trigger outs on the drum machine - why not spend a little prep time and create something simple to introduce the talk which shows off the gear?

2. Perhaps show off some features slightly more organised - there are 3 filters on the Oddy so why not have a patch which can be tweaked to show the difference?

3. The vocoder should really have a piece prepared so that they can show it off - just randomly pressing things and talking into mic isn't much of a demo.

4. Perhaps show features that other re-creations lack - correct octave handling on the VP? Is their midi implementation better on their Oddy? (controllers as well as note on/off? That might be important to people)

5. Given that they are re-creations, I don't think that it would be too bad to have originals there as well for an A/B comparison to show how close the sound is.

Hey ho

To be fair to those guys, we don't know when they were asked to do this and how much time they were given to prepare - and it was just an introduction to these toys, after all. It was enough to say "they're here" to the world.

But maybe I'm being overly-generous!

Not Behringer, but same principle. I was looking at some of the videos of the Korg Minologue XD and thinking, that’s really cute (accepting its form factor issues) especially the NEW Multi-Engine oscillator to add to the VCOs - and the VPMs look like a really nice implementation of 2 Osc FM. Chimes  with my growing appreciation of FM (2, 4, or 6 operators) at the moment.

Then I thought - VPM - that sounds familiar. Dig out the Parameter guide to my KingKorg, and there it is on page 8, VPM Saw, Square, Tri, Sine (Osc types 29-32 of 126!). 2-op FM with ratio and mod depth control. No algorithms, but hang on, each of the 3 oscillators can be VPM, so that is basically 6-op FM where the algorithm is 3 parallel carrier-modulator pairs.
Each operator pitch can be modulated via the virtual patch system (Env, LFO etc) as can overall Osc level etc. So.... not quite as sophisticated as the Minilogue XD, which also has feedback, noise and 16 Osc types compared to the KK’s 4. But hey, the KK can have 3 VPM oscs, the Minilogue only one (+2 VCOs). Just different capabilities, not better or worse.

Getting back to Desmond’s post, the point is, I hadn’t even clocked that VPM on the KK meant FM. Just hadn’t looked closely enough. After half an hour this morning, I have a new preset on the KK called “Meg FM” (using 2 VPM oscs) - and it is Mega.

And I didn’t have to buy anything, just look a bit more closely at what I already had. More investigations to follow!

Ha, not going to happen - no one’s resolve is that good! It is worth the odd reminder though, otherwise as Desmond said, it is just the distraction of new toys.

Incidentally, sorry for the wildly off-topic, but on-principle, post.
