Though supposedly a lot of people have compared the DM12 to the REV2 and preferred the sound of the DM12.

Neither my Model D, MS101, or VC340 sound like a VA, plus if you trebled the price tag of all of them and put the original manufacturers name on them people would still claim they are a bargain, there is nothing in either look or feel that feels wrong/bad/low quality.

Of course - it's a matter of taste. Side by side with an open-minded audience, as described above, I can imagine the DM coming out second best.

There's no doubt, and not just with listening.. the same food with different packaging is always reported to taste differently, with the most-expensive package leading to the best taste :)
and we won’t even mention toilet paper, well no more than a brief mention. There was a large ad campaign that might still be running here on tv (I don’t watch anymore). I’m still trying to figure out what connects overly fluffy white kittens and toilet paper. Did one of the ad execs mistakenly pick up a kitten (hopefully by mistake) one day in the bathroom?

Well if people listen with their eyes (something to which I am prepared to lend credence) then Berry's best tactic might be to set up a company called Mooginger ...

Yeah, I've given up on that Rich. My challenges to the broad sweeping assertions-as-fact by .dee have gone unanswered or conveniently overlooked several times in the past.

As a result I simply ignore much of what they post now, though it would be nice if they were to back up, or in some meaningful way defend, those assertions.

I suspect it boils down to "it's easier to rant than to reason" though I love a good rant myself on occasion to be fair ;)

For me, what really irks me often on audio forums is this phrase "A sounds *nothing* like B".

What they generally mean is that "my experience is that A doesn't sound exactly the same as B, at least in some scenarios", which is NOTHING LIKE what they actually said... :headbang:

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder or for asprin tablets its the placebo effect.

For the same active dose..
big tablets work better than small ones.
Two weak tablets work better than 1 strong one.
Expensive ones work better than cheap ones
The ones in fancy packaging work better than those in plain packaging.

:headbang:

I will be posting my 'analogue, VA or digital?' listening test soon (all being well, next week). It was delayed for valid reasons, but it's coming.

I predict a deafening silence from certain quarters and a fun bit of banter from others :-)

Another one you can add to the list:
Placebos prescribed by a doctor work better than ones issued without a consultation.

After 30 years of working in food packaging design I'm mostly immune to that.

Just upload two files A and B and get people to compare them, but make B a copy of A, so exactly the same. It would be interesting to see what results you get!

I'll never forget the guy in another forum who said "I don't care if the two files null, I can hear a difference."
