Behringer Neutron - couple of oddities...

Postby The Elf » Wed Aug 15, 2018 9:19 pm

Just started fooling around with one of these Neutrons and I've hit a couple of snags.

Portamento only works when USB/MIDI notes are played legato. I can't find any way of latching it. I tried using slew, but any signal from the slew jack *adds* to the internal pitch CV generated from incoming MIDI, so the pitch tracking goes wonky. I guess slew would work via CV, rather than MIDI, but that's not the way I want to connect it. Any ideas?

I wanted to use a MIDI mod wheel to add vibrato.
I connected LFO output to ATT1 input and ATT1 output to the OSC1+2 CV input.
I assigned mod wheel to the ASSIGN assignable CV output and connected this to ATT1 CV input. Job done, I would have thought...
As soon as I plug the jack from ASSIGN to the ATT1 CV input it generates vibrato all the time, even with the ATT1 control all the way down - moving it sends the vibrato crazy. It's as if there's a Voltage coming through the Assignable output, even without moving the MIDI mod wheel. Again, any ideas?

It's a great-sounding synth, and I can forgive it a lot, but these things seem pretty fundamental to me. If anyone else has one I'd love to know if your's is the same, or if mine is faulty! :headbang:

Ooh look - this one's identified themselves as an employee. Wonder if his written English will be up to the high standard set by the Russian troll?

Funny how the Behringer representatives always post once with the same standard reply and then disappear - never to be seen again. Nic could just as easily have explained whether the behaviour that Elf was seeing was correct or not - which would probably have saved them support effort as anyone else with the same problem could see the reply here rather than having to contact them.

10. Patch ASSIGN to ATT1 CV, set ASSIGN to MOD WHEEL, patch ATT1 OUT into OSC 1&2 pitch CV, this way the mod wheel sets the depth of vibrato, with LFO rate/ shape setting the characteristics and ATT2 setting the maximum depth.

ATT2 only needs the slightest nudge up for this to work.

That sounds like what I did, but it wouldn't work properly, as I noted above. My Neutron isn't with me for a while, so I'll be sure to try again when I get the chance.
