Sound Module needs a new home

Postby Folderol » Sat Apr 13, 2019 8:10 am

Yesterday I fired up my Yamaha TG 33 Tone generator for the first time in something like 10 years. This is effectively an SY35 without a keyboard. It has all the controls, MIDI, L & R audio out and a headphone socket. It appears to be working perfectly, on a bog-standard 9V wall wart (although the spec is for 10V). Sound is very clean and all the presets seem to be correct.

Anyway, the point is that it needs a new home. As I also have an SY35 and don't make much use of that, I don't see any likelihood of using this unit again. I'm not after any money for it (although if anyone wants to throw some my way I won't complain), and if someone wants it who's not too far away I'd prefer to bring it along in the car rather that trust it to the tender mercies of the postal services.

Please form an orderly queue

I'm happy to pass it onto one of the causes I help to supply. They're always looking for anything that helps to make noises.

Well....
You're not exactly next door, so unless anyone else grabs it beforehand I'll hang on till there's a SOS meet (or SynthFest).

My pedantry is screaming at this point, so, apologies for this : technically, the TG33 was the module of the SY22, not the SY35. The 35 had a few tweaks over the original 22. There was a module (TG300? TG500?) which had all the waveforms from the 35 but it was more a traditional rack mount box.

Having said that, the TG33 is a firm favourite and many of us had that 'baby Wavestation'... I loved mine to bits. Someone really wants to bag this!

Thought I would say this openly rather than a cheeky PM. I have been on the lookout for a TG33 for a long while, and would love to take it off your hands, not least because there is now an excellent editor for it on the IOS Patchbase App, which I own.

I mention this partly for general interest of TG33 fans who may come this way - and just in case you want to reconsider and hold on to it...

I am in East Yorkshire so not local, but there are always ways, and I would not be expecting a freebie. Does that put me at / near the front of the queue?

Elf, sorry if I have missed this from previous posts - what is it you do for (or provide to) the ‘causes’?

There are a number of charitable groups I supply unwanted/unloved gear to that use it to bring a little joy into the world. Nothing major.

Well, you're about the same area as the Elf, so that's not a consideration
However, as you're specifically looking for one I'd say that puts you ahead.
Are you likely to attend any of the meets? I'm rather concerned about the idea of sending it. It is surprisingly heavy for it's size, and the vector control knob is somewhat sticky-out too. I have an image of the poor thing being slung at high velocity, and coming to an abrupt stop on a concrete floor :(

Copious bubble-wrap can deal with that... and I would be happy to organise a courier. Alternatively, I am aiming to get to Synthfest this year, after two false starts... are there any other meets planned?

Hi All,

If its any help ? I'm travelling down to kent on the 21st April for a weeks break.

I could collect the TG33 from Will and either Elf / Bill could pick up from Huddersfield (ish) ?

Jumpey, that is a stunning offer. Picking up from Huddersfield area is no problem, and it would be great to meet a fellow Yorkshire SOS-er.
Question: will I be able to prize it from your grasp? :headbang:

I agree with Will - Bill should be first choice. How about we use this an excuse to meet up?!

That’s very generous of you Elf. And you’re right, it would be a great excuse to get together. Other Yorkshire SOS-ers (is there a proper word?) might be interested. Nathan perhaps?

Gentlemen, I'm reading this living in Sweden so I'm absolutely not in the market for this one - just wanted to tell you that reading this thread gives me a warm fuzzy feeling inside :)

As a sidenote, having been to Synthfest in Sheffield twice, this is exactly the thing that makes me want to revisit in 2019 as well - nice helpful people converging to talk about a common interest and have fun, humanity at it's best.

Might see you in Sheffield come autumn
