Anyone interested in building an ARP 2600 clone?

Postby dKRelease » Tue May 07, 2019 12:16 pm

Hi all. Im currently around 80% of the way through building the 2600 Compact, an electronically identical remake of the 70's classic, but based around the Eurorack format.

It consists of 10 modules in total and should make for a fairly straight forward DIY project for anyone with reasonable DIY/soldering skills. The project can be built as per the original intention, ie one of each module, but of course a custom version with extra oscillators, envelopes or anything else is possible too.

I will be offering PCB/Front Panel sets for sale once the prototypes are all proven, but for now you can keep up to date with any progress here

More videos/audio examples and pics will be added before long. Thanks for looking.

That looks and sounds really good! Glad you're rising about the nay-sayers as well, the last thing anybody needs when they're working hard on something is some idiot coming along and chucking their sad little oar in.

Any idea of prices yet?

I have no idea what I'm doing.

Cheers! Nothing concrete yet but I want this to be what I would consider to be affordable, so it’ll definitely be under £200. That’s for 10 PCB’s and 10 front panels which averages out at under £20 per module, and will easily be by far the cheapest way to get somewhere near to a 2600 of your own.

That's brilliant. The layout looks clean and open as well.

I would be interested if it were not for the fact that I am banned from using a soldering iron after an unfortunate incident with a Kurzweil. Which is also good news for my fingers as I tend to absent-mindedly pick up the wrong parts.... ouch!!

Still, best of the proverbial with this.

Wow - I've only just got around to reading the linked Muffwiggler thread, but now I'm definitely MOST impressed!

The very best of luck with this project Dan

And it's a yes from me! See you in the next round, in fact I'm pressing the Golden Buzzer. I applaud you for your efforts, well done. I cannot say these plaudits will modulate into an order, that being said I'd rather know about the product than not know.

You can't post pics direct to the forum - it doesn't have any hosting facility of its own.
But you can link from elsewhere using the "Img" button when you're preparing a post.

Project looks cool btw - I haven't built anything for a while, but this is making my soldering iron twitch
