Hi
Was there ever an expansion board available for the Yamaha CS6x as there is a blank panel on the back?

It can accommodate Yahama PLG cards — PLG100 or PLG150 series. I think two of them. (I've never had a CS6 but used to use these boards with a Yamaha SW1000XG soundcard and a Kenton Plugstation).
The PLG150-AN is brilliant (An1x on a card). I liked the PLG100-DX I had too... though there are decent software DX7s now, of course...

No - the PLG expansion cards were fitted in the space underneath the CS6x. The panel I'm talking about is the long thin blanking panel on the back of the unit, next to the Smart Media card slot, not the bottom.

Ah, my bad. I don't have a manual handy to check this, but IIRC this could also accept an MLAN expansion board... might it be for that? Those were usually installed on the rear of devices like this. Don't know if there were other digital output options too...

OK, I've found the answer. The slot is / was for a Yamaha mLAN8E Expansion Board which provided three Firewire and one 1394 port for digital connections.

Having used mLAN in the past you're not missing much IMHO. I found it very fiddly, prone to problems and generally a pain, though it was a good idea in principle. Yamaha dropped support for it ages ago as far as I know too.
