That might attract the odd glance at Synthfest!

..but you'd have to mop away all the drool every hour to avoid people slip-sliding to the ground ;)

What's more interesting than the product is who's going to buy one? and why?

AS gear isn't cheap (although it isn't ridiculously priced either) and this is a limited run product. So it will be bought by the kind of people who have 25k + tax and shipping to spend on something truly wonderful in their studio. It seems that there are more than a few around.... Tom wouldn't do it if he didn't think that he could sell them!

There is money about, I've just had a mail from KMR asking about the Moog Model 10, and it seems these types of things always sell out.

A few vanity studios and some universities... at a guess... :-)

I'll have to get one for the ARP Angelophonic Workshop and use it to audition for the new Doctor Who theme....

:)

I'm going to stick my neck out here and...I love a vintage synth as much as the next nerd, but...that thing is completely OTT. ;)

I bet most buying this will pull the trigger in a less than sober state, it's the sort of thing I'd buy after a good session, with friends egging me on, and wonder what on earth I'd done the next morning.

It's is, a work of art, like a lot of these things. A beutiful object to look at in your studio.
Beyond that I question it's value, as a tool I'd probably rarely use, and couldn't be bothered to learn.
But it's good people are still still making these types of things, and I'd still like to know who's actually going to fork out for one.

The value in modular, in my opinion, is entirely subjective to begin with. Spending $6,000 for a couple of voices and utilities that don’t objectively sound “better” than plugins or VCV Rack but then say that a $30,000 modular is a bridge too far, in my case, would be silly. If I had the space and the money, I would have all the synths! :bouncy:

No no no and no, I cannot, in any way, see the value of this thing, and I'd love to hear any future music that's been made with it, that's of any value, or that pushes any boundaries whatsoever.
Sorry to be so negative, and remember, it's just the way "I" feel, and all this stuff is just getting a bit beyond it for me.
This is a "hyper-instrument" and just like the Fairlight, the Moog Modular, and the Synclavier, there were very few musicians who could afford them, and out of those people even fewer did anything worthwhile with them.

PS
I've been thinking about this Collosus in more depth, it does look good, the more I look at it the more I get seduced by it. It would be very dangerous to get too close.
But, there are a couple of things that price tag could buy me that I'd be more happy to own.
My ultimate dream time synth is the ARP2500, not for any particular musical reasons, just nostalgic, and the looks. £25,000 could be a sizeable chunk towards one of those.
Or, a large Buchla system that definetly would get used.

Can you get a discount if you already have a suitable oscilloscope?

But I'm sure they'd be more than happy to make any mod's you want. I'll come clean, I do like it, looks fabulous, but it's that same old story, I know £25,000 is a lot of money, but not as much as £100,000 + for a Synthi 100, and the price difference still wouldn't stop me thinking...

"It's not anSythi100" that would be the rub.

I do know that there was genuine interest at Synthfest, and if it goes to the person I was discussing it with, it will go a good home and to someone who will definitely make excellent music with it!
