I was just flipping through the catalogue for the latest Vemia auction, which has just begun and runs for the following week. It includes eye-candy like a Hartmann Neuron...

...I remember looking greedily at the SOS review, despite Gordon's misgivings. But what interested me more was the comment on the Hohner Adam.

That one's been on Reverb for a while, and I'd looked at it a couple of times and thought, huh, I didn't know Hohner designed such interesting-looking synths.

The description in the auction catalogue, which also includes one, describes it as: "Extremely rare synth workstation designed by Axel Hartmann very near the time he was also designing the Waldorf Wave (and before his own Neuron)."

So that explains it. I don't know what it sounds like - I'll have to go listen. But as demonstrated in the black saucepan thread, the first bite is with the eye...

*edit*

I just listened to the demos. :)

Certainly not - this post must remain for all eternity, to illustrate the potential pitfalls of GAS.

Tempting auction, but too much stuff to wade through, and reserves aren't low for the tastier items.

Easiest way is to download the CSV and sort by make.

I think I'll pass, I'll only buy something!

I think you got the right idea about this auction. The clockwork started running this afternoon and lots are now closing every 20 seconds. A lot of clutter is going unsold, while the rarities go for good prices - like this Synton Fenix. (SOS). Back in 1999 Gordon described it as a "glorious folly", and that still seems true with an RRP of £900, and a closing price of £5900.

(I fancied the Ondes Martenot but misread the price as £2500, when it's actually £25K. Hmm, well, no bids yet, so maybe I'll wait for it to come down a bit if it gets relisted with the "Second Chance Sunday" sale tomorrow. Oh, and the Adam is still available!)

...oh...it looks like I got the auction lot I wanted...

One of the things I've been keeping an eye out for is the Eowave Persephone ribbon synth.

I can't remember where I first came across it, but I remember seeing this piece in The Guardian where they pointed out that: "The only "name" musician to currently be publicly associated with the instrument is Peter Christopherson, aka Sleazy, the transgressive electronic music pioneer linking Throbbing Gristle, Psychic TV, Coil, the Threshold HouseBoy's Choir and Soisong."

...and, this is it, apparently. Mr Christopherson passed away in 2010, and this was his.

At £600 I can't really afford it, but I'll have a bit of fun with it, then if I need to sell it again I've never seen one go for less. (They're long out of production and rarely come up.)
