Alternative knob box to BCR2000 ????

Postby N i g e l » Tue Nov 26, 2019 7:16 pm

Is there a currently available knob box similar to the Behringer BCR2000 ??

i.e. a ton of knobs and switches + MIDI

That one hadnt occured to me as the BCR2000 has 32 knobs and 16 switches + bank switching. I will check out the xtouch though, it certainly looks like a desireable spaceship controller ! :)

It seems madness for Behringer to stop producing the BCR2000 as there is demand. The EBAY price for a possibly 10 year old unit is now more than I paid for mine new !!!!

Then again, a lot of Behringer kit has mysteriously sold for more than it was new on eBay, even when it was still current product.

DJ TechTools do a few such things. But IMO the BCR2000 is hard to beat.

A few things that might be worth a look:
https://www.gear4music.com/Keyboards-an ... oller/1909 - lots of encoders but not endless.
https://www.gear4music.com/G4M/Novation ... Black/1S40 - ditto
This might be interesting depending on how it works (as mentioned above): https://www.gear4music.com/Recording-an ... Black/2JYA

Or you could just get a block of these: https://www.behringer.com/Categories/Be ... rans(en|en) :headbang:

But really you're probably best off keeping an eye on the second hand market. I think I lucked out with mine and got one of the last new ones in the country.

I think your right about an Ebay device.
The Akai midimix looks cute but no DIN, probably DAW orientated. Also the DJ tools devices.

Doepfer had some promising boards with USB/MIDI for knob/encoder/switch but not only are they discontinued but they were selling them off cheap.

I can recommend the X-Touch, it works with Reaper, and following a firmware update works with the XR18, which is why I finally bought one.

Good god, I bought mine in 2016 for $150 and one enterprising twerp is selling one (brand new) for more than $1,200 on ebay!

holy smoke. I'm afraid I have to rescind my offer. I can, however, make it available at a completely unreasonable price :-) (ok, not completely unreasonable, perhaps moderately shameless)

I love the irony, I put this in the closet after a couple of weeks thinking it cheap and designed for a very different workflow. Destined to be discovered by the executor of my estate when I'm past caring. But the cheapest, throwaway, little, twiddling, monkey box I couldn't get along with turns out to be a hot ticket...I love it. Wish I'd bought a hundred lol

You get a lot of that kind of 'kite flying' exercise on good old 'feebay', never seen one actually sell though.

Fun fact: there's a homebrew firmware available somewhere that turns it into a stand-alone MIDI sequencer. Which is pretty neat, I think!

Pretty neat except it means that the sequencer fraternity are now buying up the BCRs as well as the tweaker fraternity - and I read that photographers are using them with their editing software too.

Theres even a software developement kit to hack the hardware !

:frown:

judging by the insides its quite old tech and might have stopped production due to obsolete components.

i hope that Behringer realise its a modern classic and clone it !

Naah I’d like to see Moog or DSI or Roland clone it :bouncy:

That would be ironic but no doubt expensive once youve paid for the name badge.
Behringer's severed ear logo doesnt add a premium.

Moog would provide much warmer sounding digital encoders. DSI would provide digital controlled analogue encoders. Roland would reduce the knob count by 1/3 and make them all mini-knobs.
