MIDI Controlled Analogue Synth

Postby ZFM » Mon May 18, 2020 7:12 pm

Hello. I got outbid by £5 on eBay for a Korg MS-20 MINI ...a miniaturized reissue of the original MS-20 but with a MIDI input. It sold for £255 + £50 P&P. So, I'm trying to turn this into a positive by finding a better alternative.

Incidentally, the little built-in keyboard on the Korg MS-20 MINI wouldn't have suited me. It probably adds at least 20% of the manufacture cost and is completely unnecessary nowadays. I'd probably have kept it new and plugged in a MIDI keyboard with full-size keys.

Otherwise, I'm looking for a fully analogue synth with MIDI input like the MS-20 in sound & functionality for around £300 including VAT/P&P, but with no built-in keyboard if possible. Any ideas? Or should I just try to get another MS-20 MINI...?

I'd be happy with just the notes being MIDI controllable, preferably the pitch-bend too. This is so I can control it with a MIDI guitar and different sized keyboards.

Thanks

We live in a golden age for analogue synths, so there are tons to choose from at that price. But actually one thing I've always liked about the MS-20 is that it has a pitch-to-CV converter built in so that you can plug an electric guitar straight into it. The effects can be unpredictable to say the least but it's a lot of fun.

You beat me to it DGL.

It may not sound exactly like the MS-20, but it's close enough and meets the requirements beautifully.
