Help me to identify the synth

Postby adala » Fri May 29, 2020 2:05 am

Hi! Could anyone help me tp identify the synth which has this sounds:
https://dropmefiles.com/NanMo ("DigMallet")
I don't know composer, but this music was on CD 2004 year. So this sound should be from synth 90's or early 2000s. I inedtify, that composer used a lot of Roland 2080 (may be 3080/5080 - because they has same sounds in BankA-D). May be that sound from some SR-JV80 exp.board (Orchestral 2?) (some SRX if it was 5080). Or it may be from Korg.

ps additional sounds "ChoirPad Up" and "EthStr" (https://dropmefiles.com/NanMo).
"ChiorPad Up" - the sound goes a second octave after some delay + delay FX
"EthStr" - like sweep down pad + delay FX

It's all very similar - I suspect that if you got something from that era you could get close to all of them with a little programming.

The digmallet one sounds almost like a wavestation to me for some reason.

The choir up one is so damned familiar it is driving me potty - I have a nasty suspicion that it is a Roland JV/VX

The ethereal string one has a slight Korg-ishness to it.

But, frankly, you could get close on any of the good romplers. Me, I'd do stuff like that on the Korg M1/Wavestation vstis these days

It almost sounds like the voice preset "Tsunami Warning" from the Korg Trinity and could hypothetically be a modified version of that although as you say, there are a number of potential sources.

At the very very start of the choir up mp3 there is a very telling little 'tinkly' filter modulation which to me screams "Vox Morphing" (or one of its layers - it's a Performance patch), also from the Trinity.

In fact much of the synth work sounds extremely Korg-like to me, especially in the highs. Not to say it couldn't be something else, but a Trinity could certainly "do all that".

I checked all presets Korg Wavestation (Vst) and found some sounds that used in music. Also there are some very similar sounds to DigMallet, but it's not sound I'm looking for.

P.s. I think "EthStr" looks like Korg Trinity (TR-Rack) Combi A 18 Dragon's World (http://www.synthmania.com/Korg%20TR-Rac ... 0World.mp3), right?

>>to Eddy Deegan
you mean Vox Morphing this sound: https://dropmefiles.com/WMCEN ?

Well, one of the synth may be Korg Trinity (EthrStr and Vox Morph never play together, because they are Combi sounds, right?) But DigMallet and ChoirPad play with them, so it's from other synth (or second trinity in studio, although doubtful).

Choir Pad may be from Roland SR-JV80-09 Session - 028 Ivory Mist https://dropmefiles.com/6Yvo8, but I'm not sure.

Also characteristic of this music "сeltic harp" and "tremolo guitar" https://dropmefiles.com/WMCEN, may be they from the same synth as DigMallet

Today discovered that the sound "ChoirPad Up" very closr to "SurroundPad" from Ensoniq TS12 (10:22)
https://youtu.be/xM2pJmwoyn8?t=622

may be DigiMallet also from ts12?
