SynthFest UK 2020 POSTPONED

Postby Paul Gilby » Thu Jul 30, 2020 3:53 pm

We are sad to announce that SynthFest UK 2020 will not take place this year due to the COVID‑19 Pandemic. We had hoped the situation in the UK would improve by the October event date but we’ve now reached the point where there is still a great deal of uncertainty and no time to organise the show. :(

Everyone’s health and safety is our first concern and the practical social distancing restrictions make it impossible to hold an event at the venue.

We plan to return next year in October 2021 with a fantastic show!

In the meantime, we have a limited stock of merchandise from last year’s show available to buy from the Sound On Sound online shop.

And why not explore over 800 Synthesizer Articles online now covering product reviews, techniques and more at http://www.soundonsound.com/synthesizers

I was hoping to make the long trek to sunny Sheffield this year. I'll just have to be patient another 12 months.

But I've just ordered a lovely t-shirt from the shop :)

Sad, but let's be honest, expected and sensible. [sigh] One day we'll be the other side of it. [/sigh]

Mrs R is very disappointed that she won't get to see all her favourite customers this year, too!

Yes, very regrettable all round but as CC said, not unexpected. It's going to be a highlight of my year in 2021 though, so that's something to look forward to and to keep me motivated in the meantime I'm going to start a little savings fund in anticipation of seeing some tasty toys there :D

It is a sensible decision, but...

I pretty much expected this, but was still sorry to have it confirmed. Also commiserations to the folks that were making all the effort trying to save this.

So here is my list of events for this year:

May - LAC France : delayed (possibly to run in November)
June - NFFF : cancelled
August - Broadstairs Folk : Cancelled
September - Sonoj Germany : Cancelled
October - Synthfest : Cancelled

And the biggy for us that we'd have been driving off to tomorrow morning - Sidmouth. Woe, woe and thrice woe is me!

Damn, and I was actually going to make the effort to attend this year, too!

Still, the right decision to make under the circumstances.

Roll on 2021 instead.

Agreed here too, a shame but wise. Synthfest is very hands-on.

There'll be a gap in my mug collection though, that's going to be hard to take.

No - you got it right Zuke. It's just that, given your reputation, I'd steer clear of describing any "toys" as "knobby" .... :bouncy:

Anyone up for a Zoom 'post-show-that-never-happened' curry on the first Saturday of October?

In my field of planetary sciences, all the conferences have been cancelled not just for 2020... but already for at least spring 2021 (mid-end of March). This includes the biggest opportunity for the researchers in my field to meet up (in Houston, LPSC) and NASA to make its main announcement (of future missions) of the year. Who cares... you might quip of course, but they are also discussing the cancellation after the postponement of the 2020 Olympics ... in summer 2021. So, in many professional fields we are looking at at least two years of cancellations. A lifetime. A worldwar scenario.

Really, this begs the rhetorical question: when is all of this going to end? Only if and when a vaccine will be developed and proven to be effective (thus, possibly summer 2021 or beyond)? Can the world economies take it? Time to sell your SUVs? And live music, and conferences and blah blah?
