SynthFest UK 2020 - Virtual Event

Postby Paul Gilby » Fri Oct 02, 2020 1:31 pm

The pandemic stopped the physical event taking place so we have created a Virtual Event to mark the day and we’ve extended it across the whole weekend!

Saturday 10th - Sunday 11th October

5 great reasons to visit the Virtual Event Portal

    Manufacturer Products
    Retailers
    Demo Videos
    LIVE Streaming Chat Show
    Synth Community Fringe Events

Hours of things to explore and watch -- and gear to buy!

LIVE Stream on YouTube hosted by Jamie Morden - Sat 2pm - 10pm
Interviews - Chat - SynthFest UK Portal highlights - Music and more!
The show will be available to watch on-demand from Sunday onwards.

SFUK Virtual is a ‘self-service’ event where you can explore the SynthFest UK website as a ‘showcase’ portal linking to many destinations.

Tour the site and check out the Manufacturer Products, visit the Retailer section and click through to the many Special Offer prices. Watch the Demo videos, many being launched on the day. Visit the Synth Community Fringe Events page for a timetable of YouTube shows put together by synth enthusiasts featuring Performances, Tutorials, Chat and more.

If you have a SynthFest UK T-Shirt from previous years, why not dress the part and get into the spirit, post your photos and comments on social media.
See the site for Twitter and Facebook page links and use #synthfestuk and #synthfest

The event goes live online at 10am Saturday 10th October.

The Retailers offers page closes at 10am Monday 12th October.

SynthFest UK shaping up.

So far 35 brands are taking part and will have a presence on the portal and, there are national retailers and specialist Eurorack dealers onboard too.

The Synth Community Fringe Events features live and pre-recorded contributions with performances, a seminar, roundtable chat and more. Plus the not to be missed Live Stream on Sat from 2pm to 10pm hosted by Jamie Morden.

More details to follow as we head toward the weekend.

Cracking work Paul! Should be a good couple of days. I won't ask if it's been more work or less than the physical event... ;)

Just booking a virtual hotel room for Friday and Saturday nights. I'll need to start early on Friday morning as it's a very long virtual drive.

However, I will not fob myself off with a virtual curry :D

Later today I'm going to rustle up a video that will become part of the SFUK 2020 event. I'm thinking of going through my live synth/backing/improv rig and explaining how it all fits together.

Anyone have anything specific they'd like me to cover?

My wife Anne is beginning to Think Thoughts about the Roli Seaboard 25. I know you've got one, do you use that in your rig?

Cheers,

If it's applicable I'd be interested in anything to do with patch management and selection in the live setting. Most synths don't do seamless patch changes; which may or may not be a problem for you but if it's something you've had to work around that would be good info.

Also the means by which patches are selected (by hand, via controller etc) and if there's any organisational aspect of that that helps you keep track of it all (how your banks are prepared/organised etc).

On a related note, and again if applicable, details of the MIDI connections you use would be good contextual info as well :-)

I've created my video and it will be available on the day. To fit in with time constraints I've kept it brief and confined to the fundamentals, but hopefully it will show how I'm handling things on stage.

Also available will be a 'lockdown' version of an old Wavestar tune, all done using the rig I've described - in fact created using the example Cantabile Song file I show on screen.

There's a huge amount of interest in the event from all corners of the industry - it's been gratifyingly surprising just how keen and supportive everyone has been. I've just heard about a couple of particularly tasty discounts to be had on the day. Unfortunately I'm sworn to secrecy - aargh! Suffice it to say that my credit card is eyeing me nervously...

Look forward to seeing you there!

I do use a Roli 25 - and I perform live with it for a few tunes. In fact last tour I did a solo part as an intro.

I *love* the Rolis. Unfortunately I've had a lot of trouble with the Roli 49, but that's another story, and one which has sent me back to the 25 in preference.

If there's anything specific you need to know, just ask - it's a passion of mine!

That in itself is good to know. Thanks.

Right that's the chemical toilet installed and the lock fitted on the bedroom door. I did a full sweep of the room whilst she was out and all electronic devices have been removed. I just need to work out a suitable time between her going to bed very late and me getting up very early so that I can lock my daughter in her bedroom to stop her hogging the bandwidth over the weekend :bouncy:
