Leslie Judd asking intelligent questions, Bill Bruford, and Mr Simmonds himself.

And more Simmons/Bruford footage in Rock School too. Rock School 2 was totally my jam back in the day - taped it and wire the video tapes out I think. Wasn’t much about synths etc on TV except the odd Tomorrow’s World or Micro Live piece...

I saw Bill Bruford playing with King Crimson around that time and remember his solo using the Simmons kit was one of the few drum solos I've seen that have managed to hold my attention. One reason being that he was using samples in an interesting way to build up a soundscape.

Ha ha - too much Simmons is not enough!

Really enjoyed the interview though. My namesake Bill has been a hero since I first heard ‘Fragile’ in the early 70’s.

Notably intelligent questions, as you say Andy. Uncharacteristic of the period, or indeed any interview at all, regarding music technology.

Bill Bruford: "Though I know that Dave and his company are working on all kinds of sound"

Presenter: "the company that makes these electronic drums, in fact 85% of their production ..."

Presenter (pointing at kit that Bill was using): "How much power is there in that in computer terms?"

Dave Simmons: "In that particular unit there's about 1 and a half megabytes of ROM"

I love the Jarre angle all for itself, and call me naïve if you like but I'd say that's a Simmons kit by definition. Specifically an SDS 7
