Bad. It's a compromise that Elf and I both dislike, but for opposing reasons. Both of us like the extra length of a 76 (and 88) note keyboard. The Elf also loves synth action keybeds and is happy to use an 88 note synth action controller. I think that you should either have synth action or fully weighted keys and there are precious few 76note weighted keyboards out there.
So, for me, the PC4-7 is a step backwards. For The Elf, it's a wasted opportunity. But I'm guessing that sales figures would have us in a minority...

Why would Kurzweil have moved 'forward' by removing digital outputs on their keyboards?

Both! I hate weighted keys. Most pianists hate non-(or semi-)weighted.

I'm surprisingly unfussed and quite like non-weighted / semi-weighted keys if I'm not trying to play a piano part on them although I have to take pains to avoid smudging due to the lighter action.
My pet hate is a bad weighted board but a good one is lovely!

I find a weighted keyboard leads to fewer duff notes for me.

And for me it's the complete opposite! :headbang:blinddrew wrote:I find a weighted keyboard leads to fewer duff notes for me.
Plus I can add no subtlety to string parts, for example. It's like trying to play a violin with boxing gloves on.

Boxing gloves make no difference to my violin playing

If your playing is that bad make sure that you also wear a head guard when busking to protect your noggin. :)N i g e l wrote:Boxing gloves make no difference to my violin playing

I think what's happening here is that we are starting from different places! :DThe Elf wrote:And for me it's the complete opposite! :headbang:blinddrew wrote:I find a weighted keyboard leads to fewer duff notes for me.

The extra resistance from a weighted keyboard means that my accidental brushes and double keying have slightly less chance to make it to the sensor bed as i try and desperately adjust.
Subtlety on a keyboard is a foreign land to me.
