The PVC pipe xylophone is taken to insane lengths (literally) as part of the Blue Man Group shows. I love that to bits - been a few times :)

We have friends who play nyckelharpa and we have a hammered dulcimer ourselves which Anne plays so to me neither seems unusual or strange. But then I play concertina so who am I to talk?

I was thinking a hammered dulcimer looks positively normal next to a row of gummy bears hooked up to an Arduino!
Ive always loved the sound of them, they look very hard to play. An anglo concertina is still on my seemingly endless instrument wish list as well.

I LOVE the sound of a dulcimer - and that is a superb performance.

Carnyx was my fave, I used to work in a carpet warehouse, and we made carpet tube xylophones Blue Man style, our boss used to go crazy.

That would have sounded awesome! But then you probably had enough room there to set it up.

I'm told by those who play them they're actually pretty straightforward if you're playing in sharp keys, thoroughly awkward in flat keys. They're also very forgiving, that is, the sound is so beautiful even the wrong note sounds good.

All depends on what you hit it with, and how hard, of course.
