As you know we’re making major changes to basement etc, this involves a move upstairs, so we’ve decided to get the piano out of the way at the moment, it’s being collected on Monday to be taken to the workshop for a full refurb. Action overhaul, Bluthner hammer heads, original blue felting, new strings, clean, plus a lot of other stuff.
Exciting! It’s going to be great to hear it once it’s been done, trouble is it won’t be back here for about another four months.

I approve of this post enormously
The time will fly by. I've got another month to wait for the PolyBrute but I'm happy that the clock is ticking and it's been a couple of months on preorder already I think.

Great isn’t it Eddy! I had to have a large G&T before I booked it in!

There are few things more beautiful than a fixed-up Blüthner. A friend of mine has a concert grand from the 1920s and it recently got an action overhaul.

No experience myself, but I'm always pleased to hear of older pianos being given a thorough overhaul - so many are just left (or worse bodged) until they are beyond recovery.

I would have loved both my Aunties baby grand and her square piano but alas no space, plus the square piano goes out of tune if you look at it the wrong way and is certinaly a piano volume wise.

Thanks Hugh, yes, I’m looking forward to getting it back, it’ll take about four months I reckon, there are two pianos in front of me, but he’s taking it now, it’ll help us with our rearrangement, it’ll be easier without the piano in there.
He’s a decent chap, Carstairs Pianos, highly recommended, and the only person for miles around that still works on grand pianos, most of the others only do uprights now.
I’ll definitely post a couple of pieces when it arrives back home.

Re: Piano finally gets repaired.
Might be an idea to build a piano-sized collection of cardboard boxes to reserve the space for four months, otherwise after your reorganisation you or Mrs Arpangle might get used to and reallocate the extra space!
