[Synthesis] Please help with re-making this sound

Postby methodonez » Sun Apr 25, 2021 9:06 pm

hi y'all. I'm at the very beginning of trying to teach myself synthesis by deconstructing and recreating fairly simple sounds and have been trying at this bassline for a good few hours now, but I can't seem to get anything satisfactory.

could anyone please point me in the right direction? what am I missing?

this is the bassline that I'm trying to recreate:

this is what I have:

any help would be greatly appreciated <3

Welcome to the forum

Although the timbre isn't quite the same it's close enough to get the effect. The main thing I noticed is that your amplitude envelope needs a bit of adjusting :-)

Set the sustain and decay (correction: I meant 'release' instead of 'decay' here) stages of the envelope to zero, set a fast attack and a reasonably fast decay. What will happen is that the note will not sustain even if you hold the key down, and the decay stage will determine the length of the note. Experiment with the decay until the length of the note feels right.

Eddie is right - fast attack and decay. AND some release as well.

It sounds like 2 (maybe 3) oscillators which are saw wave and the other(s) ever so slightly detuned against the main oscillator. The filter is quite, so start with higher values and take down slowly until it matches.

Should one of those decays be 'release' as the decay can't be both zero and reasonably fast. But as the sustain is zero, then there is no release to speak of, so maybe one too many decays?

Just want to clarify it for the OPs sake.

Oops, my bad... I said 'decay' instead of 'release' - well spotted Wonks!

Fast attack, fast-ish decay, zero sustain, zero release. Alter the decay until the note sounds punchy/bouncy enough.
