I went to a local building supplier (they were on Rockwool's list) and asked for RW3 as that's what I wanted. I can't remember if they had it in stock or they got it for me, but it wasn't a difficult process!

I may have missed something in the earlier discussions, but I'm not sure why you are getting weights to work out density etc.
Why not just ring, or better still call if it's not too far, and ask for RW3 (if that's what you want) in the thickness you require?

You can go on to Rockwool's site and find dealers by postcode if you want to try other companies closer to you.

I'm pretty sure I got my 45Kg/m3 via Travis Perkins down here in north cornwall, and they even delivered it free of charge!

I'd go for 60Kg/m3 nowadays though if I bought any more.

Selco have Rockwool in stock locally but it has no reference number on the packet - hence establishing the density by weight.

Having a shufti now, thanks again. :)

I have a product code for the stuff the local places are carrying - but it's not a code that appears on the rockwool website. :headbang:
Email sent to rockwool, will let you know how I get on!

Don't let them pull the rockwool over your eyes! :D

Not enough irritatingly. Will give Jewson a call on monday but not sure if they sell direct to the public?
Ho hum. Didn't expect this to be easy but thought this bit might be a bit easier! :)

Jewsons definitely do - I cycle past the Exeter branch most days, and they have an enormous sign hung on their fence advertising exactly this.

Cheers, will give them a call tomorrow. Should be getting a quote from Selco as well.

P.S. Wonks, I'm ignoring that... ;)

The density of RW3 is 60kg/m3 whereas RWA45 is 45kg/m3. Both are available in various thicknesses from 25 to 100mm and the sheets are generally all 600/1200mm wide/long. Both are class A1 non-combustible, of course.

It's frustrating, but understandable that most building suppliers insist on selling pallet loads, which is a lot of rockwool! And shipping will always be pricey because it is both bulky and heavy... But you can always put the left-overs in the loft! ;-)

For the Studio SOS jobs we generally use Rockwool Sound Insulation Slab packs from Wickes just because it's always in stock and can be bought in small quantities of one or two packs etc...but I'm not sure of its density to be honest... and the website doesn't seem to say.

Drew is referring to Rockwool Sound Insulation Slabs https://www.selcobw.com/products/insulation/acoustic-insulation/rockwool-sound-insulation-slab-1200-x-600-x-50mm-8-64m

Maybe we get a little too anal about the specifics sometimes

Yeah, I did wonder about that. And then I thought, "but I only want to do this once. And furthermore, if Max says 60kg/m3 is the best compromise, then I'm not going to argue." :D

I'm pretty sure that I got mine from Insulation Express and paid a delivery fee as it was still the cheapest alternative. Just spend a little time thinking through how you will use it so that you only need to order the once.

They're on my list to call tomorrow, the added complication (because there wasn't enough beforehand) is that my road has a low bridge at both ends, so I need to find out how big their delivery lorries are.
I'm confident on my amounts though.
Probably.

That was my take so I went to some trouble to get the RW3 variant. TBF the higher density stuff is easier to work with too.

I've just had it confirmed from Rockwool themselves. The 'Sound Insulation Slab' product which you see in Wickes and elsewhere has a density of 35kg/m3 which is okay-ish for broadband absorption panels but not ideal for corner bass traps.

Funnily enough I've just had an email from them this morning as well. But mine said it was 45kg/m3...
Either way, I've got some phone calls about RW3 to make today. Cheers Hugh.
