Best dB meter for a modest budget

Postby SH198 » Thu Sep 20, 2018 10:44 am

Morning,

Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced dB meter that would be suitable for making a few basic readings for a home sound insulation project (of music room)?

Thanks!

If it's purely for comparative measurements then a iPhone/Android app will do the job pretty well. If it's for absolute measurement (say to satisfy planners or local EHOs) it will need to be calibrated and it will be expensive.

It happens that I was looking around for SPL meters for someone the other week (they wanted cheap but a C weighting. Not easy to pin that down) and I came across several models in the £30-£50 region that had data logging to a PC. I think that would be a useful feature for comparative tests?

Sorry! Since I am not clairvoyant I did not anticipate your question and so did not note the makes. They are out there though.

Dave.
